So we built one. Here’s what that means and why it matters.
There are no independent bookstores in Menifee.
That’s not a criticism. It’s just true. Menifee is a city of nearly 100,000 people, and if you want to browse a shelf of books someone actually picked out with care, you’re driving to Temecula. Or ordering from Amazon and hoping the algorithm gets it right.
The algorithm doesn’t get it right.
A good bookshop isn’t just a place to buy books. It’s a place where someone has already done the work of reading through the noise and pulling out the things worth your time. That curation matters. It’s the difference between a shelf that feels like a discovery and a page that feels like a warehouse.

We moved here in 2021. And one of the first things we noticed, not right away but eventually, was that there’s nowhere to browse for books. No independent shop. No local shelf someone has actually thought about. You drive to a chain, or you order online, or you just don’t.
We didn’t set out to build something. We just got tired of the gap.
Menifee Bookshop started as a digital shop because that’s what made sense — you can serve a whole city without a storefront, and every purchase still goes somewhere meaningful. We’re not waiting until we have a building to be a real bookshop. This is already a real bookshop.
Every book on this shelf is something we’ve read and would hand to someone we care about. That’s the only standard. Not bestseller lists. Not what’s trending. Just: is this worth your time.
